GPRS is the acronym of (General Packet Radio System).
GPRS is a technology for the data packet switching transmission, this means that the data before being transmitted are separate in packets that will be adequately reconstructed once reaches destination. Internet uses the same system for the transport of information.
With this technology different users can share the same resources, this means that different GPRS users can share contemporarily the same network.
Main characteristics:
- packet switching data transmission
- good speed of data transmission
- connection always on
The maximum speed is approximately 171Kbps, using the eight timeslots previewed from specifications.
The payment is based on the amount of data (Kb) exchanges and not on the time of logon to the GPRS service. This means that to be connected to Internet with GPRS doesn't involve costs, until data are not exchange to the net.
The GPRS technology was born for serving as bridge between GSM and UMTS.
