FOMA acronym of Freedom Of Mobile multimedia Access, is a 3G standard created by NTT DoCoMo (Japanese Company), and it founds on the W-CDMA interface.
This is a technology that allows the high speed data transmissions towards the mobile devices that support the standard FOMA.
FOMA is similar but not compatible to UMTS technology, it transfers the data packets to a speed between 64kbps and 384kpbs.
The FOMA services support a great variety of applications like:
- internet access
- e-mail dispatch & receipt
- file transfer
- video phone calls
- video conference
- audio and video streaming
FOMA has been introduced in October 2001 by NTT DoCoMo, currently the service offers one cover of 100% on the Japanese territory.
