EDGE is the acronym of (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution).

EDGE is a wireless technology that allows the wideband data transmission. EDGE can be considered a GPRS with Turbo, because it can reach the 384kbit secondd as the speed of a basic ADSL connection.

The EDGE technology is easy to be realized because it can be installed on the existing GSM infrastructure.

With EDGE the operator is able to offer services multimediali to high speed, safeguarding the initial investment of the net GSM. With EDGE the telephonic operator is able to offer high speed multimedia services, protecting the GSM network investment.

EDGE is a UMTS complementary technology.

To take advantage of this technology we have to use mobile devices (cellular, PDA, smartphones, pocket pc) able to be connected to the mobile phone operator EDGE network.
